Josephine Linggar

She was born in Jember, East Java in 1943. She now lives in Jakarta. Josephine is a self-taught artist who is very attentive to detail and is observant of the human anatomy form. Renowned as a fashion designer in the 80s, she began her career as a painter in 1990. In 1994, her paintings debut in a solo exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. This was followed by solo exhibitions in Singapore, Washington DC, and at Galeri Hadiprana in Jakarta. Josephine’s work has been showcased in more than 50 exhibitions, including an exhibition titled “Man and 1000 Butterflies” in 1999 and “Mata Mata Jakarta” in 2006 at the National Gallery, Jakarta. Josephine was also commissioned by the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Indonesia to paint portraits of the late First Lady Mrs. Tien Soeharto and former President Megawati Sukarnoputri. Both works of art are on display at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
